Tradition and new course
Arte Fiera – Italy’s very first modern and contemporary art fair – has always embraced change, keeping abreast of developments.
The next edition of Arte Fiera (3 to 5 February 2023) is no exception. Among the many new features is the new position of Managing Director entrusted to Enea Righi, a well experienced manager and one of the most important art collector in Italy.
The major changes planned include the layout of the exhibition booths and communal areas, further services made available to gallerists and collectors, and improved catering in the fair grounds and VIP area. A general re-design of the exhibition will offer visitors an even more enjoyable, engaging experience.
Arte Fiera will be held on the traditional dates in Halls 25 and 26, the longstanding home of this event. Easily accessible on foot from the main entrance, Piazza della Costituzione, the two Benevolo pavilions – to be partly refurbished for the trade show – are considered the most elegant and recognisable of the Bologna Exhibition centre.
A big fair: more artists and new sections
Arte Fiera’s design concept has also undergone major changes.
Without jeopardizing overall excellence of exhibitors’ proposals, it will now be possible to present more artists, while the large stands will have no restrictions on the number of artists that can be displayed. The aim is to significantly expand the range of artists and works on offer in light of increased investment on the collectors.
The Main Section – as always, dedicated to historic and contemporary art – will be flanked by three curated, invitation-only sections: Photography and Moving Images, Pittura XXI, and a new area called Multiples, open to both galleries, publishers and specialised bookshops exhibiting selected editioned artworks.
PITTURA XXI
4th edition, Pittura XXI is a panorama of 21st-century painting from Italy and around the world, including both emerging and mid-career artists.
Curated by critic and independent curator Davide Ferri.

Photography and moving images
has become a reference point for photography collectors and enthusiasts. The medium is considered from a wide-ranging perspective, in dialogue with other media, especially video. The section has been assigned for the first time to Giangavino Pazzola, curator of Camera – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia (Turin).

Multiples
another new section, is devoted to all types of works in edition, especially books.
Curated by Lisa Andreani e Simona Squadrito, founders of REPLICA – Archivio Italiano del Libro d’Artista, Multiples includes galleries as well as specialized bookshops and publishers, united by the shared concept of democratic collecting in harmony with the traditionally public and inclusive nature of Arte Fiera.

The fair will also renew its partnership with ART CITY, Bologna’s Art Week circuit. The 2023 edition of Arte Fiera will offer its customary program of shows and events coordinated by Lorenzo Balbi, direc- tor of MAMbo- Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna.

Of course, there will also be ARTCITYWhiteNight, one of the year’s most popular events. On Saturday 4 February, many sites of the ART CITY Bologna circuit, as well as galleries, independent exhibition spaces, historical buildings, and shops will stay open until midnight.
Contemporary art invades Bologna during Arte Fiera: a peaceful joyful invasion of exhibitions and performances, happenings and events.
Like every year, ART CITY White Night descends on Bologna on the Saturday evening. Just after the art fair closes, tens of thousands of art enthusiasts will be able to choose from a vast range of things to see and places to go in public and private venues of all kinds.
For the special feature right from the start of ART CITY White Night has been to make art available not in galleries and museums but also in everyday places like shops, bistrots and bars.
