BLIND DAY is the day of awareness for the community of people with blindness and visual impairments in Israel.

It is held every year on 6/6 and this since 2010. 6/6 is the medical definition for proper vision; And on this very day we invite Israeli society not to see 6/6, and to recognize the community of people with blindness and visual impairments .

Purpose of the day:

This is not a fund raising day, but a day  toincrease awareness of the community, and encouragement of its integration into society; under the slogan: ‘Close your eyes – and look!’ – each time we seek to show another facet of community life.

As a rule, we chose to highlight the The value of equality – close your eyes and see that we are all equal, even when we do not see 6/6. On BLIND DAY, we’ll consider “things that connect people.” Connecting with all aspects of life, with an emphasis on employment, in order to raise awareness and create new opportunities for the community.

 Activity and dates:

In our activities panel you can find a variety of activities that take place in different locations. In addition, the Knesset annually marks the event on a special day where discussions are held in the various committees and experiential activities are conducted in the Mishkan in cooperation with MKs and ministers, and we aspire to wide media exposure.

Standing behind the day:

The BLIND DAY was founded by Think Color, a group of students with blindness and visual impairments    Media. In recent years, the center has been led by the Center for the Blind in Israel, in cooperation with associations and organizations that are working to improve the lives of people with blindness and visual impairment, together with public and private organizations and in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Services. We believe that the company recognizes the importance of integration, but is not exposed enough to the community of people with blindness and visual impairment, and is not aware of its capabilities, alongside the actions the company can do to improve the life of the community.  Although we will not be able to see you but we would be very happy to join us and participate in the activities of the day to help us create a broad exposure to the community and thus increase awareness of people with blindness and visual impairment and their abilities.

Founded over 30 years ago by Government mandate to be the ‘umbrella’ organization responsible for all the groups working for the visually handicapped throughout the State of Israel, THE CENTER FOR THE BLIND IN ISRAEL is dedicated to its mission of improving the conditions of life in every aspect for this section of our community.

A non-governmental and registered non-profit organization, we provide a variety of services and programs to over 25,000 citizens of differing ages, backgrounds and religions and act as their sole representative in our national Government – the Knesset.

Also acting as their international representative, THE CENTER FOR THE BLIND IN ISRAEL is an official member of the European Blind Union and of the World Blind Union, allowing us to keep up with international trends and to exchange and develop ideas and projects with many other countries and to show our presence and take part in international conferences.
