Galerie Crone#Art Cologne
Wir zeigen eine einzige, skulpturale Arbeit der jungen Künstler Tobias Hoffknecht und Stephanie Stein. Sie kann als typisches Minimal-Art-Objekt begriffen werden, oder als Monument gegen eine Welt, die sich wieder auf hermetische, totalitäre, repressive, antidemokratische Strukturen zubewegt.
Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit war eine Gummizelle, auf die Hoffknecht und Stein beim Besuch einer Stasi-DDR-Gedenkstätte stießen. Sie dient dort einerseits als mahnendes Museumsstück und Relikt aus der Vergangenheit, scheint aber andererseits symbolhaft für den Zustand und die Zukunft unserer globalen Gesellschaften zu stehen.
Zu der Arbeit erscheint eine Publikation mit einem Essay des Philosophen Marcus Steinweg. Im Anhang finden sie seinen Text vorab.

Tobias Hoffknecht und Stephanie Stein haben bei Rosemarie Trockel an der Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf studiert. Sie haben in der Vergangenheit schon mehrfach zusammengearbeitet, sind aber ansonsten unabhängig von einander künstlerisch tätig. Hoffknecht wurde 1987 in Bochum geboren und lebt in Düsseldorf. Stein wurde in Kiel geboren und lebt in Berlin. Die Arbeiten der beiden Künstler wurden zuletzt in verschiedenen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen in Deutschland, Italien, Brasilien und Griechenland gezeigt.

We will show a single, sculptural work by the young artists Tobias Hoffknecht and Stephanie Stein. It can be conceived either as a typical minimal-art object, or as a monument against a world moving again towards hermetic, totalitarian, repressive, anti-democratic structures.
The initial impulse for the work was a padded cell, which Hoffknecht and Stein encountered during a visit to a Stasi-GDR memorial center. On the one hand, it serves as a warning museum piece and a relic from the past, but on the other hand, it seems to symbolize the condition and the future of our global societies.
A publication with an essay by the philosopher Marcus Steinweg about the work will be published. You can find it in the appendix in advance.

Tobias Hoffknecht and Stephanie Stein studied under Rosemarie Trockel at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, Germany. In the past, they have worked together several times, however, they are artistically independent of each other. Hoffknecht was born in Bochum in 1987 and lives in Düsseldorf. Stein was born in Kiel and lives in Berlin. The work of the two artists was shown recently in various individual and group exhibitions in Germany, Italy, Brazil and Greece.
