of the Hungarian Neo-Avant-garde artist group Pécsi Műhely
(Pécs Workshop).
Parallel Avant-garde – Pécs Workshop 1968–1980
The exhibition presents the artistic activities and draws attention to the significance of a Neo-Avant-garde artist group that used to exist on the periphery of Hungarian art scene. The following artists were members of the artist group: FICZEK Ferenc (1947-1987), HALÁSZ Károly (1946-2016), KISMÁNYOKY Károly (1943), PINCZEHELYI Sándor (1946), SZIJÁRTÓ Kálmán (1946). Until today, only a few publications are available on the history of this artist group. Members of Pécsi Műhely were labouring on renewing local Constructivist and Avant-garde traditions, as well as developing a new visual language and establishing a new visual culture. It was the Bauhaus artistic heritage they relied on as an example in their joint works. Apart from showing the most outstanding works created by members of Pécsi Műhely, the selection also gives particular attention to the display of archival documents, exhibition catalogues, correspondences, collected reflexions; and to presenting cooperation between group members.
This exhibition is organised jointly with Budapest Spring Festival.

In this program collective art studios open up their creative spaces where the artists greet and meet visitors personally for a couple of hours. Artists introduce their art works and are free for conversations with those interested.
Art Generation – founded in the beginning of 2014 – is an art workshop and gallery in one of Budapest’s well-known industrial spots, in the former Láng Machine Factory. The founders are: József Szurcsik Munkácsy-prize winning artist, Gyula Majoros sculptor and Blattner prize winning puppet- and stage-designer and Tibor Andriska creative graphic designer. The gallery and art studio -also the permanent material and intellectual creative space of the founders- intends to serve as a welcoming platform for introducing artists, for organizing exhibitions and other cultural events in the future.

Urban genre and street photo
Budapest’s habitants, their everyday life and their holidays are in the center of the photography exhibition which is divided into two thematic parts. In the historical part of Kiscelli Museum we can learn about the typical genre of people from the beginning of the century, like the porter, the coachman, or the diviner. Furthermore we can discover the daily routines of these people like housing, transport, or commerce. The collection – which presents contemporary photographers’ works, and reflects on the historical images – displays the everyday life of the capital after the political reform, and shows the changing and pulsing rhythm of the city.
