On the one hand – on the other hand; both … and (M+M), 1988 – 1992, Kunsthalle Worpswede, Installation view 2015, Courtesy Estate Anna Oppermann, Galerie Barbara Thumm
Anna Oppermann’s visually powerful multipart ensembles of objects, photos, paintings and texts look as if they are growing out of walls or corners towards the viewer. Using her ensemble method, the artist uniquely connected the conceptual and formal aspects of the art of the 1960s. But at the same time, her works appear as proactive reflections on the network models of today’s digital scene. The exhibition is being organised in collaboration with the Anna Oppermann Foundation.
In Dirk Zoete’s artistic practice, drawing, photography, scale models, sculpture, performance and video function as possible realisations of what comes into being in the freedom of the studio. We discover an imaginary reality that is open to wonder and imagination, but at the same time we are presented on the stage in the theatre of lifeI
Kristof Van Gestel gives the creative process g
greater priority than the product it generates. S.M.A.K. is inviting the artist to share his experience-oriented practice with the public in a temporary studio in the museum. Using a draw-and-cut technique he developed himself, participants are playfully prompted to reflect on such notions as chance and choice, individuality and commonality, action and reflection.
